On May 10, the Powerball drawing turned a dream into reality for a lucky resident of West Virginia. David G., a local player, redeemed a winning ticket worth $500,000 after successfully matching four out of five winning numbers along with the Powerball. This fortunate ticket was purchased at Hammer’s Market, located in the small town of Shinnston, Harrison County, which has a population of approximately 2,300 residents.
The winning numbers for the draw were 21, 24, 33, 55, and 69, with the Powerball number being 3.
Just One Number Short of the Jackpot
To win the coveted Powerball jackpot, players must match all five numbers along with the Powerball, which in this case had an estimated total of $109 million. Powerball is one of three multistate lottery games offered by the West Virginia Lottery, alongside Mega Millions and Lotto America.
Nationwide, a total of 16 players narrowly missed the jackpot by one ball. One player from California matched all five main numbers but did not hit the Powerball, resulting in a $1 million prize. Meanwhile, the remaining 15 players, including David G., matched four numbers plus the Powerball, each taking home $50,000. Notably, six players opted for the Power Play option with a 10x multiplier, elevating their winnings to an impressive $500,000.
