The Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) concluded its final regular season match series last Sunday, determining the top 20 teams that will compete in the Split 2 Regional Finals. Although OpTic Gaming did not manage to secure a map win during their last outing, their consistent performance throughout the season enabled them to finish second in the series and hold a solid second place in the North American Split 2 standings. With this performance, OpTic has guaranteed their invitation to the upcoming Regional Finals. More notably, they have amassed 106 placement points across six regular season match series, ensuring their position in the Split 2 Playoffs.
In the North American region, the top ten teams in the Split 2 standings, along with the winner of the Regional Finals, will advance to the Playoffs. FaZe, currently sitting in sixth place in the NA standings, poses the closest threat to matching OpTic’s placement points this Sunday. Even if OpTic were to finish last in the Regional Finals, their total would still secure them a place in the Playoffs, as a tie for sixth in the final Split 2 standings would be more than sufficient. OpTic’s standout performance in their fourth match series, which saw them win three out of six maps and achieve eight or more eliminations on four separate maps, highlighted their capabilities and contributed to their back-to-back match series first-place finishes.

Competitive Landscape Ahead of the Regional Finals
As OpTic heads into the Regional Finals, they are considered one of the frontrunners, facing tough competition from teams like XSET, FaZe, and TSM. TSM and XSET finished first and second in the Split 1 standings and went on to compete in the Split 1 Playoffs, with TSM claiming the top spot. Both teams have already secured enough Playoff points to guarantee their invitations to the Split 2 Playoffs, with XSET currently leading the Split 2 standings. TSM, however, finds itself in a precarious position at eighth in the standings and needs a strong finish in the Regional Finals to secure its playoff berth.
Meanwhile, FaZe, like OpTic, missed the Split 1 Playoffs and starts this season without any playoff points. Despite a solid performance in Split 2, they do not have the same cushion as OpTic. To clinch a spot in the Playoffs, FaZe must aim for a top-ten finish in the upcoming match; otherwise, they will have to depend on the results of the teams below them.
Last Chance Qualifiers and Where to Watch
As teams position themselves for the Playoffs and a shot at the ALGS Championship, they will also have another chance to qualify. Following the Split 2 Playoffs, the Last Chance Qualifier provides the final opportunity for teams that missed the championship cut but performed well in Split 2 standings. The top two finishers from each region’s Last Chance Qualifier will receive invitations to the ALGS Championship.
Fans can catch the Split 2 Regional Finals this Sunday, May 7th, by tuning in to the official Apex Legends Twitch or YouTube channel. The Split 2 Playoffs are set to take place in London from July 13th to 16th. Updates regarding the Last Chance Qualifier and the ALGS Championship will be provided as soon as they are scheduled.
