The Apex Legends Global Series concluded its regular season last weekend, finalizing the Split 2 standings across all regions after the regional finals. Notable changes in the North American region led to some teams missing out on the upcoming Split 2 Playoffs, while others managed to secure their spots just in time.
This competitive atmosphere resonates across the South America (SA) and Asia-Pacific South (APAC-S) regions, each of which sends only five teams to the playoffs. With the point totals of the first and second-place teams often within reach for those in the sixth to eighth spots, the stakes were high for teams fighting to secure their playoff invitations until the very last moments of the regional finals.
Conversely, the Asia-Pacific North (APAC-N) region qualifies nine teams for the playoffs, while the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region sends ten. North America enjoys the advantage of having the largest talent pool, with eleven spots out of the total forty available for the Split 2 playoffs.
North America’s Top Eleven Teams Headed to Playoffs
In North America, the top four teams largely remained unchanged heading into the regional finals, with DarkZero climbing from fourth to second place after a strong performance that saw them finish first in the finals. This repositioning pushed OpTic Gaming down to third place.
Significant shifts occurred among the rest of the top eleven, with teams like FaZe and TSM moving up a position or two. However, squads like 100 Thieves, Glytch Energy, and Luminosity dropped down the standings. Luminosity had the most nerve-wracking experience, narrowly clinching the last playoff spot with a tenth-place finish in the regional finals.
Unfortunately for Meat Lovers and WildCard, their efforts fell short, finishing just behind Luminosity in both the regional finals and the Split 2 standings, resulting in their exclusion from the playoffs. On a positive note, NRG and Complexity, who were near the cut line before the finals, performed well and capitalized on the missteps of the other teams, earning their chance to compete for playoff points this July.
Overview of Other Regions
In the EMEA region, the top four teams remained unchanged, with Alliance, Vexed Gaming, and Pioneers securing the top three spots in the regional finals. Ethernal’s fourth-place finish in the finals ensured their place in the playoffs by solidifying a tenth-place standing in the overall season rankings.
For the APAC-N region, the leading teams didn’t face much pressure during their regional finals, as point totals dropped significantly after the eighth position. FC Destroy emerged as the final team to secure a playoff spot after finishing third in the finals.
In APAC-S, the top three teams—Moist Esports, ONIC Esports, and BLVKHVND—established a clear gap from the competition throughout the season. MDY-WHITE and DreamFire faced pressure as they were close to the cutoff line, but DreamFire secured their playoff spot with a second-place finish in the finals, while MDY-WHITE narrowly avoided elimination.
South America: A Competitive Showdown
The South American region was particularly competitive during the regional finals. F/A Players had already accumulated enough points for a top-five finish, ensuring their playoff spot, but still demonstrated their prowess by finishing second in the finals. Fellas clinched the regional finals victory, solidifying their playoff invitation in third place. Meanwhile, Gosu, ATHXHVY, and LeaveNoWitness held their ground, narrowly fending off challenges from K1CK, NORG, and NorCal Esports to secure their spots in the top five.
Understanding Split 2 Playoffs and Viewing Information
The Split 2 Playoffs will kick off on July 13th in London. All forty qualified teams will be divided into four groups of ten, competing in matches where each group faces off against the others. This group stage will conclude on July 14th.
On July 15th, the tournament will shift to a bracket stage. The top 20 teams from the group stage will move to a winners bracket, while the bottom 20 will enter a losers bracket. Each bracket will consist of a six-game series, with the top ten teams from the winners bracket advancing directly to the finals, while the bottom ten face off against the top ten from the first losers bracket.
The finals, scheduled for July 16th, will feature no match limits, with teams aiming to achieve a minimum of 50 points to become “Match Point Eligible.” The ultimate goal is to secure a match victory. Multiple teams can reach this status during the finals, making swift wins critical for those who have become eligible. The team that wins will be crowned the Split 2 Playoff Champion, taking home a prize of $300,000 from the total prize pool of one million dollars, while second place receives $160,000 and third place garners $105,000.
