Illinois casinos kicked off Fiscal Year 2025 on a positive note, with July revenues maintaining momentum from previous months and slightly exceeding year-over-year figures. The state’s 15 casinos collectively reported adjusted gross receipts of $135.8 million for July, just shy of June’s total of $138.3 million, which capped off Fiscal Year 2024 with over $1.6 billion in revenue. This July’s performance marked a 2% increase compared to the $133.3 million collected in the same month last year. Overall, for the 2024 calendar year, revenue has already surpassed $956.3 million, a significant rise from the $864.3 million recorded during the first seven months of 2023.
Rivers Casino Leads the Pack as New Facilities Loom
Rivers Casino continued to dominate in July, generating over $41.5 million in adjusted gross receipts. This comprised approximately $26.6 million from slots and around $15 million from table games. However, it’s worth noting that Rivers experienced a nearly 12% decline compared to last year. Following in second place, Grand Victoria Casino brought in $11.3 million, down about 10% from the previous July’s $12.6 million. Harrah’s Joliet closely trailed, with $10.9 million in receipts, while Bally’s Chicago also exceeded the $10 million mark, totaling $10.4 million for the month.
Despite a slight decrease in table game revenues, which totaled more than $30.6 million compared to last July’s $32.3 million, electronic gaming machines such as slots filled the gap. Slot revenues reached about $105.2 million, up from $100.9 million in July of last year.
Looking ahead, the landscape of Illinois gaming is set to expand with two new casinos. The Hard Rock Casino Rockford, currently operating a temporary facility that generated $5.9 million in July, is slated to open its permanent location on August 29. This development is expected to enhance gaming capacity and boost revenue in upcoming reports. Additionally, Wind Creek Southland Chicago is set to launch in the fall, further enriching the state’s casino offerings.
